U.S. Internet Gambling Law Update

Federal Legislators have requested that an officially authorized team be assigned to define what constitute unlawful Internet gambling activity and to carry out a study of the costs that the financial institutions sustain to assure compliance. (H.R. 6870)


The current Internet Gambling Law (UIGEA) is confusing because it doesn't define what constitutes illegal online gambling.

UIGEA requires financial institutions to suspend money transactions for illegal online gambling, but it doesn't clearly explain what is intended by unlawful Internet gambling.



A previous bill intended to stop UIGEA (H.R. 5756), was defeated in June 2008.
